Plant Description and Details

Deeply embossed veins and glossy dark green color of Cascara leaves give the tree/shrub great ornamental value. Living in full sun to semi-shaded, dry to moist areas, Cascara has graceful open branching. Distinct blue-blackberries in small clusters punctuate the branches in late summer and provide food for birds (non-edible for humans). Bark is valued as a Native American medicinal, and since WWII, has been harvested commercially for its laxative qualities.
