Plant Description and Details

Standing out from its other Penstemon cousins, Whipple's Penstemon has a rather sparse growth habit, takes some shade, and needs slightly more water. The lovely flowers range from deep blue to burgundy and even off-white. The Corolla's lower lip "pouts" out beyond the upper, and the flowers tend to come in tiered sets up the slender stem. Foliage is bright green and uncrowded. For maximum impact, try grouping Whipple's Penstemon in a lightly shaded area so that the delicate beauty can be appreciated.
