Plant Description and Details

Whereas Sand Dropseed's fellow genus member, Alkali Sacaton Grass, is tall and bulky, Sand Dropseed hardly casts a shadow. What the two "Sporobolus" species have in common are: high ornamental value and suitability to diverse soil types. As the commonname indicates, Sand Dropseed is commonly found in sandy areas and matures many tiny seeds on light and many-branched, decorative seedheads. Though it has a short perennial life cycle, natural re-seeding will often keep the species' toehold on a site.
